The Wiggles' Tree of Wisdom Sent Our Castle Hill Ducklings a Video
Some days at day care follow the plan. Then there are days when a video from the Tree of Wisdom, from The Wiggles, arrives at your centre and the plan goes happily out the window. That is what happened at our Castle Hill centre during Book Week 2026, and nobody here has stopped talking about it since.
A video message we did not see coming
It started as an ordinary Book Week morning: costumes, stories and a room full of ducklings. Then we gathered everyone around the big screen and pressed play on something special. We had asked The Wiggles whether the Tree of Wisdom could send a message to our children, and a video arrived just in time for Book Week. One of our educators even dressed for the occasion, leaf crown and all.
The Tree passed on a kind message to our children, families and team, and the reaction in the room was instant and very loud. Plenty of our children watch The Wiggles at home every day, so a message made for their own preschool felt, to them, entirely reasonable and completely amazing at the same time.
Who is the Tree of Wisdom?
If you do not have a Wiggles fan at home, the Tree of Wisdom is one of the most loved characters in the current Wiggles universe. It is a wise old tree that helps The Wiggles answer their trickiest questions, usually with a song and a riddle. It released an album of its own in 2025 and its own television series in January this year, which explains why the sight of it on screen was met with the kind of reception usually reserved for rock stars.
Thank you to The Wiggles team for taking the time to record something for a room full of three and four year olds. It was a small gesture on their end and an enormous one on ours.
Why moments like this matter in early learning
A surprise message from a beloved character is fun, and fun on its own is enough. But there is more going on underneath. Familiar characters give young children a shared world to talk about, and talking is the point. Under the Early Years Learning Framework, one of the outcomes we plan for is that children become confident and effective communicators. With a moment like this, the retelling is where the value sits: children telling the story again to whoever will listen, acting it out in play and asking excellent questions about how a tree learns to talk. Retelling is language practice dressed up as play.
There is a belonging angle too. When the wider world reaches into the centre, children see that their preschool is part of something bigger. The Raising Children Network gives families similar advice about early language: follow the interests your child already has, because that is where the talking starts.
Book Week, the bigger picture
The video arrived in the middle of our Book Week 2026 celebrations, which included a Book Parade and a room transformation challenge here at Castle Hill, and a week of Where’s Wally antics at our Croydon centre. The full wrap-up is worth a read if you missed it.
